ME Naman!

MeNaman flyer

In celebration of 6 years of PinoyME, growth-oriented microentrepreneurs (MEs) take center stage at the national convention of the largest business sector in our economy. For the first time, outstanding MEs from all over the country will gather on February 23- 24, 2012 to share their adventures in growing a business, working at uplifting their lives while helping the community. The Convention will highlight colourful stories of struggle and triumph. It will serve as a venue in which other hardworking MEs can find their own voice in the varying yet common experiences of Pinoy MicroEntrepreneurs.

Aside from benefiting from personal conversations, MEs will also learn
from key resource speakers who will talk on engaging and practical matters such as innovation and marketing or laws and taxation.

Indeed, this promises to be a most meaningful event by MEs,
for the MEs. It’s time for ME Naman!

Mainstreaming Micro: The Philippine Microenterprise Stakeholders Conference brought together a broad constituency from the microenterprise development sector consisting of 111 representatives from the academe, donors and funding agencies, development organizations, corporate foundations, microfinance institutions, social enterprises, commercial banks, and government institutions. The conference, which was held at Ramon Magsaysay Center, Roxas Boulevard last April 15, aimed to promote collaboration among different sectors in making microentrepreneurship a primary strategy in poverty reduction and economic development in the Philippines.

The discussion in the gathering focused on a policy paper on the current state of microfinance in the Philippines, its future directions and policy implications of scaling it up. The paper is authored by the core members of the PinoyME research consortium which aims to establish a knowledge base and strategic research initiative on microfinance and microenterprise sector. The paper was based on an extensive survey of 300 pieces of literature on microfinance and microenterprise development coupled with the experience of policy experts and practitioners. The availability of the compilation of these studies in the Socio-Economic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P) of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) was also announced during the conference.

The workshop also served as a venue for the participants, who come from a broad range of players from the sector, to identify their role in this agenda. Results of the open forum also showed enthusiastic support of different stakeholders in a joint undertaking with other key players in pushing the microenterprise development agenda.

PMSC is an initiative of the PinoyME Research consortium. The conference is funded by the Hanns Seidel Foundation and is sponsored by Smart Communications, Petron Foundation, Globe – Bank of the Philippine Islands BanKO, Peace and Equity Foundation, Rafael B.
