How You Can Help

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PinoyME Social Investment Fund?
The social investment fund is a pool of funds that enables the general public to “invest” in the small businesses of the poor. You can give capital through the PinoyME Common Fund, the PinoyME Directed Fund, or the PinoyME Philanthrocapitalist Program.

How will the capital I give be used?
Microfinance institutions (MFIs), Non-Government Organizations, and Cooperatives are the beneficiaries of the capital that you give. The PinoyME Foundation sets accreditation standards to qualified beneficiaries. Priority is given to rural, agriculture-based microenterprises, which are currently underserved by microfinance in the Philippines. These types of enterprises carry greater risk, because of their long gestation period and susceptibility to weather disturbances and natural disasters. However, these enterprises are the most in need capital. Seventy percent of the poor in the Philippines live in rural areas and are at the mercy of very expensive credit from loan sharks for their financial needs.

Is the capital I give tax-deductible?
Yes. The PinoyME Foundation has a donee institution status and can give your company a certificate of donation that will allow you to deduct the amounts you give from your taxes.

Will I know how my money was used?
Yes. Regular updates will be posted on the website so you will know how your investment was used, and what impact it had on the beneficiary.

Does PinoyME remit the entire amount I give to the beneficiaries, or are there any charges deducted?
A service charge is deducted from capital contributions made through the PinoyME online payment gateway. This is the fee charged by AsiaPay, the ePayment service provider of PinoyME. For capital contributions made through direct bank deposit or check issuance, the entire amount is placed in the fund.

Does PinoyME charge interest?
PinoyME charges accredited organizations interest for their loans. Interest is at market rates but with a 3% rebate if they are able to repay their loans on time. This is the incentive that the SIF gives to organizations to convince them to lend to the risky enterprises that it targets.

PinoyME uses the proceeds from this lending program to pay for its operating costs. By earning income from its programs, PinoyME aims to become a self-reliant and sustainable organization that can pursue its mission way into the future.
