University of Makati Offers Microfinance Program

PinoyME and the microfinance community have gained another ally in efforts to recruit and train quality human resources who would contribute their talents to microfinance.

The University of Makati (UMak) will be offering in August an equivalency program for BS in Microfinance. UMak is the latest academic institution to support the implementation of the Dual Training System Competency-based Education (DTS CBE) for Microfinance. The program is designed to give an opportunity to MF staff who were not able to complete college so they can have better career prospects.

For the pilot class, five NCR-based MFIs are sending some of their middle managers; these are Alay Buhay Community Development Foundation, CCT Credit Cooperative, ECLOF, Kasagana-ka Development Center, and UPLIFT Phils. The MF experts will also be joining the faculty complement of UMak in the conduct of two Microfinance modules.

A regular BS in Microfinance program is also in its pilot run for all UMak students starting this school year. These students are expected to be absorbed by the partner MFIs around the country after graduation.
